Domestic Violence Act - Is it really worth?

W omen have always been accorded highest pedestal of respect and reverence in our society. No matter, history is replete with umpteen number of violence cases against women. Myriad attempts have been made to ensure them happy, contended, respectful and a secure life. “Frailty thy name is women” does not hold much ice in today’s genre. Our society has already witnessed spate of acts, which were enacted to strengthen women’s position in our society. Dowry Act, Sharda Act of the past and latest Domestic Violence Act 2005 which came into effect from 26th Oct 2006. One of most compelling reasons to conceptualize this act was the fact that more than 70% women in India are victim of domestic violence. Shouting at wife for whatever reasons, compelling her to watch porn movie together, forced intercourse, physical violence like slapping, hitting, kicking, pushing etc all comes under the purview of this new act. Ministry of Women and Child Development would have analyzed at depth the relationshi

Celebrities Endorsing Condoms - A Pipe Dream

Owners of “Provogue” – a name to reckon with in the world of apparel business, recently roped in Saif Ali Khan to promote their brand, Seagram’s premium whisky brand “Royal Stag” would now be promoting it using the brand value of ace cricketer M.S.Dhoni, Motorola’s decision of roping in Abhishek Bacchan to promote their sleek and trendy handsets yielded huge returns. Similarly, business pathway is replete with such endorsement stories, which have helped many brands to sustain the negative vibes of extreme competitive scenario. Brands associate themselves with popular celebrities to catch the fancy of youngsters, which results in surge of demand for such products. Brands thrive so are these celebrities as they charge anywhere around Rs 50k to Rs 2 Cr to associate their names with such products. Take a pause here, Do you think only celebrities hold brand value? Think again, because our so-called chauvinistic politicians have also joined the rat race of endorsements, who hitherto have had

Memories of Pain

O ur country is blessed with immense beauty. Nature freak guys pack their bags and move out to explore unexplored natural beauty hidden in jungles, mountains and the like. They are moved by the astonishing beauty of ice-laden mountain peaks, captivating views of cute animals fiddling & pirouetting, amazing silhouette of trees growing naturally around river valleys, lilting music generated by ever flowing rivers and the like. Their endless urge of exploring the unexplored vistas propels them to the exotic locations, which are aplenty in our country. Well I am not this kind of freak traveler, I have hardly traveled this much but I feel I have spark somewhere hidden deep inside my heart. I kept myself busy for almost 22 years at one place completing all basic formalities of school, college, I hardly had any time and resources of my own to involve in these kinds of activities, nor my father allowed me doing all this, being a strict academician he always insisted me to focus on my studi

Believe in Diwali Without Firecrackers

I ndia- land of multitudes of cultures, languages, festivals, relations, emotions, exotic locations, unlimited opportunities, these are few attributes among many, which make our stay here in this country a blissful experience. All pervasive unity in diversity of our country is what distinguishes us from the rest of the world. We Indians believe in celebrations, which is a reason for all of us to be with our families, our loved ones to enjoy some of the most beautiful moments of our lives. Our traditional calendar starts from “Chaitra” and runs through 12 months and ends at “Falgun”. Though all 365 days are special for us, but chosen few clustered together give us what we call “festive season”, one of them is the period which starts from September and runs through October & November-- during which we celebrate Ganesha Chathurthi, Nav Durga, Durga Pooja, Dusshehra, Deepawali, Dhanteras etc. Deepawali- festival of light, is one of much awaited festivals of our country. We wish our lov

Modern Life Cycle

O ur Divine Father bestowed all of us with his biggest gift ever by giving us a rare opportunity of leading a human life. Life, as I perceive, is a journey - interesting, painful, spicy, beautiful and an enriching experience. At every step, we learn something, from our successes and failures, which come to all of us in dribs and drabs, not in one go. Our life cycle is 4-stage process like any product life cycle, introduction, growth, maturity and decline. Our birth symbolizes our introduction to this beautiful world, we all start growing, its an ongoing process (its not a stage, as I see it) during which we gather experiences, we all brace ourselves with knowledge and reach a stage of maturity, by that time we realize that we have created one more such cycle, we then engross oursleves in shaping that new cycle and enter into a decline phase and finally get a farewell from this beautiful world. When I was a kid, my parents ensured me a good education by getting me admission into so-call

Our CA God

O ur civilization was started from Adam and Eve, their love marked the beginning of mankind on earth. Later on, life witnessed spate of emotions and feeling elements which took the control of human life. Relations –friend, parents, siblings and the like , with whom, we share special bonding, we feel good when we are with them, we just cant imagine our life without them. Emotions like love, respect, lust, hatred, vengeance develop concomitantly with relations because as we all progress in our lives, we not only make friends but also enemies, which follows Human Entropy law which says for every positive element in life there exists a corresponding negative element . Life is a journey, we enjoy it, but as they say there should be someone to give you company, life then I think becomes rosy, everything seems good , we develop special bonding with him/her. We start planning our life, we set our objectives goals in which both the persons have an equal role to play. As time progresses, bonding

Silent Night

C l ock is ticking 1 AM, it’s a peaceful night but I can hear some disturbance somewhere. I wonder what kind of commotion is this? specially late in the night when everybody goes to sleep to wake up early in the morning to start one more cycle of office-home-office, somewhere I feel the disturbance, silence as portrayed by night is just an illusion while I m typing this on my computer cursor is blinking on my computer screen, it appears as if it is trying to say that keep thinking, feeling, hearing your inner voices, disturbances which may not be happening in my vicinity but they may have a bearing on me. Indeed, its true. I peep outside my window, I see silent roads disguising the appearance of an abandoned place but somewhere people are busy in planning to earn tomorrow’s bread, some are busy in planning to ditch their business rival, some are engrossed in their love life, few helpless people are struggling to have sound sleep, big guns are busy in making a diplomatic move to earn

World of Perfumes

W orld has come a long way so are we and so our culture and our traditions and living style. World has enough today to satisfy all types of senses that we have-vision, taste, olfactory and hearing. Our civilization has witnessed myriad wars, violence, triumph, jubiliation through the eyes of history , heard enough from crying souls, which tasted bitter, sour as well as sweet and smelled air of polution, filth, corruption and flames of anger. In such a scenario, one product has come a long way- Perfumes. Art of making perfumes is quite old. It started form Egypt and taken forward by Romans, Arabs and Islam. Islam offers due respect to perfumes, as Mohd. Prophet said, it is mandatory and holy to take bath for every muslim man on friday so as to spread soothing fragrance all around. In France, it became major item to be exported and contributed significantly to their economy. Perfumes, as i know, from my chemistry knowledge, is a solution of perfumery oils, aromatic compounds and some alc

Shifted Consumer Axis

O ver the years our civilization has witnessed large number of changes, which has revolutionized our lives. Life is no more a struggle now. It has been painted with luxury, embellished with frills, techno-torqued by all gizmos and gadgets. Markets are deluged with latest innovative products, potent enough to slake all pervasive thirst for acquiring new and trendy stuff, which has captured minds and thoughts of youngsters. Kids are not satisfied unless they have play-station, adorable Moms all over are ready to pirouette towards Techno-savvy society and want their kids too, to come along, to catch up with latest in the market. Strict Dads are also becoming friendly enough these days with kids and are willing to buy them gadgets. They are least bothered of the consequences and after-effects. Advertising industries, these days are busy in convincing potential customers to go for hair color change. Black seems to be an archaic thing these days, our soignée savvy ladies are going to catch u

Insurance Against Terror

M oment of jubilation for we Indians as we have nabbed the key suspect who was allegedly involved in 7/11 mumbai train blasts which killed almost 200 people and injured 700 (official figures, but we have ignored living dead persons of those bereaved families who lost their loved ones in this tragic incident, if we factor in this number, this will swell like air baloon )-- A news item on STAR News last night. It seems to me as a pyrrhic victory because the real mastermind is still alive and he may ignite many more sparks of terror in different parts of our land. The very next moment a high speed geared machinery in me started thinking about few new things that this world would witness in the times to come. I remember, i was in second year of my Engineering and was busy with my studies, my dad switched on the TV and i was awestruck by the footage being shown on it--planes crashing in to huge, well engineered building turning it into rubble. It was 9/11. Very recently, i saw entire western

Dividing the divide

Time is changing, so are we. In this modern society, there are several drivers of change. By this change, I want to drive home a point that today rich people are getting richer and poorer getting poorer thereby creating a huge gap between the two ends. Scene 1: A destitute girl wearing patchy clothes with a hungry stomach ,carrying her younger brother on her back approaches a shop for some food, shopkeeper shouts at her and asks her not to visit her shop again otherwise consequences would be very bad. Small kid, not more 9 years of age, having loads of evening newspapers, running on streets to sell his papers thereby getting few cents per paper as his income. Irony of the matter is that, for this small kid, alphabets are alien and studies are something which they don’t know but they are selling newspapers. They know one thing, they need money to eke out their living. Scene 2: A rich spoilt girl, draped in diaphanous clothes, glossy hairs, lips shining with latest L’Oreal sparkling gl

Modern LoC – Layers Of Change

In this material world, everything is changing and moving at a fast pace. Sensex riding the sinusoidal wave of bearish and bullish sentiments, market and people sentiments flickering with the fluctuations in the markets. Diplomatic relations are getting trapped in an unending cycle of successful and unsuccessful parleys, scientific discoveries keep on taking place and will take place, thereby giving new dimension and horizon to person’s thinking and way of life, film industry –so called mirror of Indian society are delivering and will keep on delivering its goodies in the form of material movies to the people, which entertains them for three hours, media industry busy in gathering fresh breaking news and Page 3 items which effectively has no relevance rather than showing stark realities of societies just because they are also in to crap competition of grabbing top TRPs , manufacturing companies busy in rolling their new and innovative manufactured products thereby justifying their exis
